FILIPA SIMÕES DE FREITAS
I studied design, but I don’t exactly remember when I decided to become a designer, but I do know that when I did decide, I was 100% decided. I had not yet completed my bachelor’s degree in Communication Design and I was already working at a printing shop where I literally got my hands dirty with paints, colors and a ton of learning.
While I was working as an Art Director at an advertising agency, I decided to go back to school and got a postgraduate degree in Marketing & Business Intelligence at ISLA. It was at this point that I broadened my horizons and jumped into the online communication world. In 2013, I officially became a freelancer and Lance Collective was born. A place where I work with other freelancers and where, first and foremost, we are all free to create.
In 2017, A Base, the studio that I never dreamed of having was born, and today it’s our work base in Lisbon. Here, everyone is welcome!

NOTEBOOKS AND PENS
I may have a ton of brand new notebooks yet to be used because the pressure to write in them for the very first time is huge. I have a collection of notebooks that keeps growing and pens that I separate by color. And paper? So many papers, textures… I keep everything.

Because that’s how I start each day. And it can either be a “bucket” or a small cup.
I’M A TALKER
I’m a bit chatty. So much so that a professor once told me that to be in the communication design course I had to be a talker. I’m actually a bit shy, and my first impression is definitely a quiet one, but once I get started you won’t be able to stop me.
I CAN’T STOP WATCHING FRIENDS
I see a lot of shows, but Friends is the one that keeps me laughing and I just can’t get enough of it.
30 COUNTRIES BEFORE 30
I had a goal and I reached it. Before turning 30, I visited 30 countries. I’m definitely going to continue travelling, but one day I’m going to return to the States and stay for good.
I'M A BIT OF A GEEK
Not too much! But I’m always surrounded by a thousand and one apps. I resort to a whole bunch of modernisms and facilitators to help keep me organized. Sometimes I’m surrounded by cables, RAM memories, hard drives…

DIGITAL DAY, AT FACTORY BRAGA
In a slightly different format than previous meetups, we sat down at a roundtable with Monica Aragão, Filipa Simões de Freitas and Paulo Soares, who talked about what it's like to be a freelancer in Portugal and in the World! They all recognized the importance of working in a Cowork space in order to establish contacts, create routines, leave the house, and for clients to see them as true professionals. They also left a good tip: if you’re looking to enter the international market, Crowdsourcing is a great place to start!
